Vaccine availability update
We currently are awaiting shipment of both the new Covid and Flu vaccines. When we receive these we will post notices on our Face book page and on Lopez Rocks. At the same time, slots will open at our website for sign up. You can receive phone or text notification of Covid or Flu vaccine arrival by signing up for notification at our website, http://www.lopezislandpharmacy.com.
We anticipate shipments to come in small batches of 100 or so for the near future, as has happened every year since the initial Covid vaccine roll out. When we open time slots they usually go quickly, so don’t delay after your notification arrives. If you miss the sign up, more vaccine will be coming.
Please do not continually call the pharmacy regarding shipment arrival, as we are getting swamped with calls. Please check our website for availability. If no times slots are available, it means we are awaiting the next shipment. We don’t know when the shipments are coming until they walk through the door. Thank you.

We continue to receive vaccines as needs dictate, Covid vaccines are delivered on a regular basis, again as needs dictate. The following are vaccines that generally are in stock.
- Shingles(Shingrix)
- RSV Pneumonia
- Regular Pneumonia
- Tetanus/Whooping Cough
- Rabies
Appointments can be scheduled on this web site. We even try to keep at least one vial of Rabies vaccine for animal bites, after hours emergencies can be accommodated by calling the main pharmacy phone 360-468-2616 Option 5. Please utilize our vaccine notification system as outlined below if you want to be notified when a particular vaccine such as Covid are received and open for appointments.
We get many calls and in person people asking when various vaccines will be available for making an appointment. We have always opened up appointments for vaccines that we physically have in stock, as most of you know there can be delays in getting products delivered to Lopez Island, ferries and weather mostly.
We have now opened up a form for you to fill out that will allow you to be notified when we have vaccines, you will no longer have to check our appointment pages for openings, although you can still do that. This new form will ONLY let you be notified that we have received vaccines and that appointments will be opening.
We will attempt to notify you shortly after we receive the vaccine, there are multiple ways for you to be notified, automated phone call, text message and email

Updated 04/15/2024
We have opened up appointments for Covid-19 vaccinations using Moderna Spikevax using the CDC guidelines for those 65 years and older and/or immunocompromised patients. Because of the strict storage and preparation requirements we have to limit the appointments so as to do as many as possible in a single day. We will open up more dates as needed depending on demand.
We continue to see active treatable Covd-19 cases each week so please be careful around others.
The complete CDC recommendations are available her.
All our regular vaccines are also available for appointments on this website.

Updated:03/08/2024
We have received the CDC approval for an additional Covid-19 booster vaccination. Currently it is ONLY for those over 65 years of age. The complete recommendation by the CDC is available here.
Adding to the usual paperwork and procedures for these vaccines the submission of claims has been totally shut down due to a Cyber attack on one of the major claim submission firms, UnitedHealth, Optum, and ChangeHealth. More information can be found here.
The Cyber attack has been going on for 3 weeks and has yet to be totally resolved. Until we have vaccine and the ability to submit Medicare claims we are in a waiting game.
Appointments will be offered as soon as we are able to order and submit claims. Our best guess is early April.
—— End —–
We are continuing to offer vaccinations for Flu, Covid and the new RSV vaccines as well as many others such a Tetanus and Shingles, and are also shown on our web page for you to make an appointment. When Covid vaccines first became available they were only offered from the Federal/State government. Ordering vaccines while sometimes slow became better overtime and we were able to order just about any quantity we wanted and needed.
We NEVER take appointments unless we have the vaccine in our hand. We never wasted any vaccines and did our best to use everything we received from the government. It was easy to order several hundred doses and open appointments to reflect what we had. Now the vaccines and treatments are ONLY offered from the traditional sources, and we have to pay for what we order. Vaccines can cost well over $1,200 for a box and a single dose of the antiviral Paxlovid now costs us almost $1,300(insurance usually covers this for the patient) for a five-day course of treatment, bottom line is we try to be prudent and order what we can reasonably use and have no waste.
You can be assured when you make an appointment with us, we will have what you need in our hands. Along these lines since we only offer appointments for what we have on hand we don’t open appointments way in the future, two to three weeks are the open time we can comfortably keep in stock.
If you don’t see an open appointment for any of our vaccines it is because our current slots are full. These open appointments changes day to day, people cancel for one reason or another and as soon as they cancel their time slot opens back up.
If you have special circumstances, such as an injury or the need to travel with short notice please call us and we will try to get you in fast.

Important Update – September 10,2023
September is starting out the same way as August ended. We already have seen 18 cases of Covid-19 that we have treated with antivirals. If you feel ill and test yourself and it turns out that you are positive there are treatment options available.
There are 3 ways to obtain treatment with an antiviral.
- Contact your usual health care provider. The clinic on Lopez can direct you to a University of Washington virtual appointment if need be. Your MyChart account can be used to do this.
- The Washington State Department of Health has a free service for you to have a virtual appointment.
- We at the pharmacy can prescribe the antivirals too. These are the criteria we need before we can prescribe antivirals for you, see below or call us for more information.
- Proof of a positive Covid Test ( a photo of the test will suffice).
- Symptoms within the past 5 days
- Bloodwork lab tests that are within 1 year that INCLUDE – AST,ALT and eGFR. These are usually included with most blood tests.
